Read from Reuters:

Italy, Japan and Britain could open up a program aimed at developing an advanced fighter jet to other countries, but at a later stage, Italy's defence minister said in an interview published on Friday.

The three countries in December signed an international treaty to set up the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) - the first major defence industry collaboration merging the separate next-generation fighter efforts of the countries.

"We will not open (the program) to others until the initial phase will be closed," Guido Crosetto told Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera, adding many countries were interested in entering but without directly answering a question on interest from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

"Afterwards, with everyone's agreement, we could widen it to other countries," Crosetto added.
The aim is to see the combat aircraft in flight by 2035. The joint development phase is expected to begin in 2025.

It will be interesting to see the actual Fighter Jet in action when it's complete.

While I'm all for collaborating, why on something like a FIGHTER jet? Why not something else that would & could help mankind.

Developing fighter jet will also help in keeping the peace for mankind. Russia and china continue to make newer military tech and newer more advance fighter jets and thus the other block of countries need to continue having more advance military tech and fighter jets than them to help maintain the status quo. fighter jet is a deciding factor to win a war. Fighter jets do serious/lethal damage that can force an opposing nation to surrender. A nation that has air superiority will most likely win in a war.

That said they also plan to allow other countries to join in. This could be dangerous like should any of the countries that joined deside to go rogue and run away with the new fighter jet tech and sell it to Russia and joining Russia for example. As long as Putin and his chronies are in charge Russia is dangerous.
